Master’s Project
Class: Master’s Project: Designing Transparency Mechanisms for Teaching Machine Learning Agents
Tools Used: CSS, HTML, Java, Processing, Omnigraffle, Illustrator, Dreamweaver
Paper: Master’s Project Paper
Project Purpose:To discover best practices around designing transparency mechanisms for machine learning agents in order to align users’ mental models with the algorithms, learning processes, and learning progression of the agent.
Project Responsibilities: Analyze qualitative data in order to design the transparency mechanisms. Conduct user studies to study the effects of the transparency mechanisms on users’ teaching methods and abilities. Design and some development on the Webgames website. UI design and wireframing for the Wall-E game.
Adaptive Games Website
Class: Independent Study (Adam Lab)
Tools Used: Illustrator, HTML, CSS, javascript, jQuery, mootools, Omnigraffle, Dreamweaver
Project Purpose:My role was to design and produce the front end work for the website for the Adaptive Games project. This purpose of this project is to analyze users play of games and try and establish a method of analyizing the game data in order to adapt the game to the users style and level of play.
Project Responsibilities: Design website and graphical assets using Omnigraffle and Illustrator. Build the website using HTML, CSS, javascript, jQuery, and mootools (the mootools work was cut for the final version). This was just the begging semester of an ongoing project.
Recycling Infrastructure Research
Class: City As Learning Lab
Tools Used: Illustrator, Physical Research
Project Purpose:My group, myself and five others, were to perform research on the recycling infrastructure at Georgia Tech. The purpose of this research was to be the launching point for a more in-depth project that produced a digital artifact. We spent many hours talking to the people involved with Recycling at Georgia Tech and discovered many of the problems and strengths of the system. We then discussed ways of possibly improving the infrastructure for a higher efficiency.
Project Responsibilities: Talk to people involved with Georgia Tech Recycling. Document and map the details of the infrastructure. Brainstorm ways to extend the project in order to produce a digital artifact.
Career Gateway
Class: Introduction to HCI
Tools Used: CSS, XHTML, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, surveys, user studies
Website: Career Gateway (limited functionality)
Project Purpose:This was the final project for the class. We wanted to create a website that would help the homeless find suitable jobs as well as develop skills necessary to keep a job. Career Gateway provides the tools to maintain a profile, maintain and update a resume, look for jobs, and develop basic skills.
Project Responsibilities: Aid in the design and development of the Career Gateway website. Conduct user studies with the homeless at a local research. Research previous work done with the homeless community. Analyze and record results in a final paper.
Moviz
Class: Information Visualization
Tools Used: XML, MySQL, Java, Omnigraffle
Paper: Moviz Paper (PDF)
Project Purpose:This project was to create a robust information visualization. We chose to build ours based on movie ratings. Moviz presents in various formats how movies were rated across sundry demographics. We anticipated this as a type of tool that a marketing department would use to evaluate demographics to target in advertising.
Project Responsibilities: Visual design and information architecture for the Moviz application. Some database design for the project. Write the research paper presenting Moviz, its uses, ,previous work and similar applications.
3D Virtual Environments
Class: Design, Technology, & Representation
Tools Used: Maya, Unreal Editor
Project Purpose:This project was split into multiple parts. The first part was to create an object within Maya. The theme for the object is ‘The American Dream’. The second part was to import that model into the Unreal Editor and make an interesting interactive environment. For the third part, the final project, our group created a Jackson Pollack inspired interactive experience where a user used an avatar to run around on a US-shaped canvas and left trails of color to, abstractly, convey their life experiences.
Project Responsibilities:Design and build a 3D model in Maya. Design and construct an interactive environment within the Unreal Editor. Import the Maya object into the Unreal Editor to use in the environment. Write the final project write-up.
Family Message Center
Class: Introduction to HCI
Tools Used: Flash, Omnigraffle
Prototype: Message Center Prototype
Project Purpose:This was a short homework assignment to build a prototype of a family message center. I built the application as if it were a touch screen module that would be installed in a public area of a house. The application provides a method for members of a family to leave messages for one another and the ability to organize those messages.
Project Responsibilities:Design the application using paper and Omnigraffle to wireframe the various screens. Use Flash to build a prototype of the Message Center.
